Dear Parents,
My name is April Mendzef and I will be your child’s second grade teacher. Second grade is truly a wonderful year of learning! The curriculum is packed with many explorations and discoveries that will keep your child engaged and enthusiastic. At the same time, your child will learn to become more responsible and independent for his/her learning. I look forward to getting to know your child and developing a personal relationship with your family in order to support your child’s emotional, social, and academic growth.
I am excited about starting my 11th year at Oak Grove and my 15th year of teaching. I attended East Carolina University for my undergraduate degree and NC State for my Masters degree; so I am both a Pirate and Wolfpack fan! I am also a National Board Certified Teacher. I have taught grades 1, 2, 3, & 4. I draw on my experiences at the grades below and above 2nd to plan and implement appropriate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all my students.
I live in Raleigh with my husband Rick and our three children: Lillian (8 – a rising 4th grader), Andrew (6 – a rising 1st grader), Ethan (2), and our two dogs & two cats.
Please take a moment to look at the sample set of school supplies. In addition, please mark your calendars for Open House on July 19 from 5:30-7:00. At Open House information will be shared with you about volunteering, field trips, class procedures, communication, curriculum, and much more.
